He has served the profession as editor-in-chief and associate editor of the ASCE Journal of Environmental Engineering and as a member of the technical boards for the Water Environment Research Federation and the Water Reuse Foundation. He has been on the Board of Directors for the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) and the AEESP Foundation.
Research interests
Dr. Arnold has research interests in the chemical and biochemical bases of water, wastewater and hazardous waste treatments. He has published extensively in areas of wastewater reclamation and reuse for non-potable and indirect potable reuse. In this area, his work has been directed toward soil-aquifer treatment, destruction of chlorinated solvents and fire retardants, pressure and distillation membrane separations and advanced oxidation processes. He is interested in systems approaches to infrastructure design based on cost and security considerations.
