Atsuko Ikeda, Ph.D, is Professor of Faculty of Health Sciences, and adjunct Professor of Center for Environmental and Health Sciences (CEHS), and One Health Research Center (OHRC) at the Hokkaido University (HU). She finished her Bachelor’s degree on bioengineering. After working for Banyu Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. (MERCK Co.) for several years, she completed her master’s and doctor’s degree at Department of Public Health Sciences at HU Graduate School of Medicine. Since 2010 she has been working at HU-CEHS. Her research included the birth cohort: the Hokkaido Study on Environmental and Children’s Health, Japan Environment and Children’s Health (JECS), and indoor air pollution and health effect project.

Her interests focus on exposure to environmental chemicals and their effects on children’s health. Her research is focused on endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) exposure, such as phthalate esters and per- and polyfluorinated alkyl substances, and their effects on children’s reproductive hormones, and development of asthma and allergies. HU-CHES has been designated as World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Centre (CC) for Environmental Health and Prevention of Chemical Hazards since April 2015. Dr. Ikeda is in charge of promoting international cooperation and actively collaborates with WHO and other WHOCC. She has initiated Vietnam e-waste survey with NIOEH, Vietnam She also organizes several classes related to environment and health and public health, and host one of the joint class with University of Queensland. She is an active member of International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (Secretary/Treasurer of Asia and Western Pacific Chapter), and International Society for Exposure Science. She serves on the Editorial Board of Environment International and Topic Editor of Environmental Science and Technology Letters.
